Last week, two of my clients strangely had the same strange physical symptom. One of them was filling out information to join a certain social media site per his boss’s recommendation and his index finger would always freeze at ‘submit’ time. The other had the same exact problem after completing certain job applications online.
This certainly was not an orthopedic dysfunction. Upon working with my clients to figure out the ‘problem’, it was obvious that in both cases the cause for this ‘index finger lock’ was the same. Simply, neither of them actually wanted to go through with what they were doing. As the body was doing one thing, their ‘inner voice’, their ‘gut’, kept screaming “No! Stop! You don’t really want to do this!” And so, at crunch time their index finger ‘locked’. In the nick of time, they chose to listen and ‘couldn’t’ go through with the final, definitive, click.
But none of us are strangers to this inner voice, are we? It speaks to us constantly. Whatever we are doing, or thinking of doing, this ‘guy’ is always guiding us. “Yes!” it screams sometimes. “Don’t!” it cries in others. The problem is that we quite often don’t trust it. We don’t trust ourselves. And so… we choose to ignore it – only to later regret that we ‘blew it off’. ‘I should have listened … to me!!!’
But that inner voice always knows what the right move is. Always. The wisdom of ages of all eras tells us that, modern scientific evidence confirms it, and I think most tellingly our own experiences corroborate it. So…. when your gut speaks, listen! Trust! Do what it commands you to do! Like my clients, you’ll be better off for it.
