Book Your Massage Today!
Dating back to the ancient cultures of China and Japan, we see massage being used as a means to relieve pain in the body. What we think of as modern day massage and Swedish massage originally came from a French translation of an ancient Chinese text called “Cong-Fou of the Tao-Tse”. Later the translation was interpreted and systematized, by Ling into what it is today.
Within the last few decades, massage has not always been excepted as a viable healing tool by modern medicine. Yet centuries ago, for prominent Greek and Roman doctors such as Hippocrates, Asclepiades, Celsus, and Galen, being a doctor meant learning and employing various massage techniques to ease the pain and discomfort of their patients.
Today massage is much more widely excepted as a viable means of healing within the culture of modern medicine. In fact, it is one of the five main Complimentary Alternative Medicine, called CAM’s, adopted my modern medicine. The five CAM’s are massage, yoga, meditation, acupuncture, and chiropractic care.
Modern day massage has certainly expanded from the basic Swedish type Relaxation and Therapeutic massage. Other modalities and disciplines include Orthopedic or Sports massage, Myofascial or Neuromuscular Release, Rolfing, Manual Lymph Drainage, and Craniosacral Therapy just to name a few.
At New Life Massage & Whole Living Solutions, we offer a variety of massage options aimed at reducing stress, anxiety, and pain due to daily living, illness, and injury. We also have a wonder full network of health professionals to whom we can refer if need be.

Relaxation
Relaxation massage is the traditional form of massage used in western culture. It utilizes Swedish massage techniques to promote relaxation, healthy circulation, better sleep patterns, pain relief and a sense well-being. The massage consists of the therapist applying gentle to medium pressure of the hands to the body, gently manipulating the tissue to promote relaxation.
It is not a deep tissue massage. It is not designed for working the deeper muscles of the body, but just a gentle kneading and rubbing of the outer layers of the body tissue. It will cover a wide range of areas on the body including the back, legs, arms and neck.
During a session, the patient will remove most of their clothing and lie on a massage table with a light sheet and/or blanket draped over the body. Usually a relaxation massage can be modified and tailored to your specific desires. Sometimes there is the option of adding some aromatherapy treatment to heighten the holistic experience of the massage. The massage takes place in a quiet, comforting environment, with your choice of any music or candlelight in the background. Many live their stressful lives day to day without taking any time off just for them. A wise man once said, ” You will spend time, money and energy to be well or time money and energy to be sick”. We hope you will choose wellness. You can start by booking you appointment today!

Oncology Massage is massage designed for those who have cancer or have had cancer. It differs from regular massage in that it is specifically and exclusively comfort oriented massage. What that means is that while many techniques may be utilized, all are used with specific client concerns addressed as needed by the therapist. There are still instances where massage is not advised (contraindicated), but for the most part it is thought to bring aid and comfort to a group of people that suffer greatly with a debilitating and life threatening illness. Oncology massage is a specialized field of bodywork. Those who have cancer or have had cancer and desire massage should seek out those persons trained specifically in Oncology massage as well as Manual Lymph Drainage. Cancer patients and health workers report the following benefits at almost every stage of the illness:

Hot Stone
Hot Stone therapy is an intensely relaxing massage in which warm stones are placed at specific sites on the body to help open up the body’s energy meridians (energy pathways). Then, as an extension of their own hands and energy fields, the therapist uses stones to warm muscle tissue allowing for gentler and deeper manipulation of the tissue.
For those suffering from circulatory issues this massage comes highly recommended.
Prenatal
Relaxing and rejuvenating this massage focuses on revitalizing the body and alleviating aches and pains associated with pregnancy. Also, includes guided imagery upon request. This massage will help the expecting mother to rid her body of excess swelling, improve her ability to move and bend, help with back pain and all her other aches. A small towel is placed under the right hip to shift the baby weight off the vena cava ( blood vessel responsible for blood return to the heart). The massage begins with head, neck and shoulders. After the arms and legs, the client is placed in a sideline pose (to the right and then the left) with a pillow to support the head and one in between the knees. The client will finish the massage, as she started, in the reclined pose. Remember your baby experiences the same emotions, stress and stress relief that you do. So, treat you and yours to a relaxing and soothing massage today!
Therapeutic
Occasionally we all suffer minor injuries (explained or unexplained) to our muscles, tendons and ligaments. In these cases a careful evaluation of the body and the particular complaint is required before proceeding with massage or other restorative techniques. This service is designed for those in mind with specific complaints or issues. Initial visits require more time and are limited to 60 or 90 minute sessions as determined by your therapist.
Deep Tissue
This massage eases into the deeper levels of tight, sore muscles, relaxing tissue and easing pain by using techniques designed to first release the fascia (a structure of connective tissue that surrounds muscles, groups of muscles, blood vessels, and nerves, binding some structures together, while permitting others to slide smoothly over each other) allowing bound up muscles to return to their normal resting lengths and positions.
Orthopedic
Orthopedic Massage (OM) is a system or protocol of various tried and tested massage techniques designed to identify, treat, and restore functional and structural balance to the body. OM utilizes techniques from many different body work disciplines and focuses on the origin of dysfunction in efforts to restore, rehabilitate, and prevent further dysfunction. This form of therapy relies not only on the skill of the therapist, but also the patient’s “follow through” commitment to restore and maintain balance.
Orthopedic Massage addresses dysfunctions arising from trauma-induced injuries such as sports injuries, surgical injuries and dysfunctional scar tissue. It also identifies and corrects postural imbalances due poor ergonomic office conditions, repetitive motion patterns and chronic pain that can all affect activities of daily living.
Orthopedic Massage can be used to identify and correct conditions such as:
• Sciatica • Back spasms / pain • Carpal tunnel
• Tennis / golpher’s elbow
• Whiplash injuries • Scoliosis • SI joint
• Iliac dysfunction • Plantar fasciitis / foot pain
• Compressed disks • Lumbosacral dysfunction
• Cervical pain • Anterior leg pain
• Bursitis • Forward head postures
• Rotator cuff injuries • Iliotibial band (ITB) issues
• Tendinosis • Dowager’s Humps
• Frozen shoulder / hip • Condromalacia patella
• Minor muscle / tendon repair • Scar tissue issues
• Knee pain • and much more!
Who needs Orthopedic Massage?
Almost everyone can benefit from intelligent and intuitive massage. Especially, those living with chronic discomfort or pain related to repetitive motions, poor work habits or posture, physically demanding jobs, or long periods of immobility. OM protocols are also very effective in resolving old chronic injuries diagnosed or otherwise.
What is involved in a typical Orthopedic Massage session?
Each session uses techniques that will allow you to obtain immediate and long-lasting results in even the most challenging and complicated conditions. An OM session involves a functional assessment based on client history and range of motion, followed by gentle; pain free, manipulation and movement of soft tissue and/or unique and specialized joint mobilization techniques. Sessions may include myofascial release, scar tissue realignment/mobilization and neuromuscular re-education techniques. Most sessions end with a client specific, home care stretching and/or strengthening protocol. Clients will be in shorts and/or a sports bra/tube top, or are draped with only the area of the body that is being treated.
How long is an OM and how many will I need?
Most initial sessions last anywhere from 75 to 90 minutes. How many sessions necessary can only be determined after the first session. Everyone is different and is treated so. Your history, functional movement, muscle-firing order, strength, posture, gait as well as your symptoms are all considered to provide you with exactly what your body needs. One session is usually not enough to permanently release deeply rooted patterns but generally enough to gain reduced or complete pain free movement and improved range of motion. As mentioned before, this protocol relies not only on the skill of the therapist, but also the willingness and commitment of the client for self care.
