NIA: Dance Yourself Thin

It includes all genres of music including, but not limited to, Latin, pop, New Age and rock just to name a few. It incorporates dance movements and techniques from Modern and Jazz; yoga movements as well as TaeKwonDo and Tai Chi. It’s called NIA (Non Impact Aerobics).

According to Wikipedia, The Nia Technique was founded in 1983 by Debbie Rosas and Carlos AyaRosas in the San Francisco area. Nia combines martial arts, modern dance arts and yoga in a workout set to music. [Wikipedia; Nia (fitness)] In their book, “The NIA Technique”, Debbie and Carlos explain that, “NIA is a completely unique fitness program that tones and trims the body superebly-through pleasure, not pain. So kind to the joints, it is usually done barefoot.” In the books title, it also states, “The high-powered energizing workout that gives you a New Body and a New Life” which is what our facility is all about!


Amanda Brown, the instructor, is licensed in the Nia Technique.  It includes a warm-up, then sustained non-i
 aerobic conditioning, strength training, cool down and stretching.  Amanda makes Nia more fun by adding her own unique style to it.
